Executive coaching: how a Deputy Head stopped firefighting and looked ahead

Sam, a Deputy Head, was struggling with a high volume of work, which had led to him working long hours over a prolonged period of time. Sam was also finding it increasingly difficult to manage challenging staff. He needed to short-circuit the firefighting habit, and find a way to re-calibrate and re-evaluate, so that he could manage challenges, and his time, more effectively.

“I felt really relieved at the end of my first meeting with Jo. Leadership can be quite a lonely place and this has been exacerbated by the pandemic. I felt more empowered to take control of my thoughts and work out practical strategies for dealing with my workload. I also learned the importance of rest and looking after myself in order to be effective.”
