At the core of Jo’s work: resilience, performance and development.

See the bigger picture, be your best and achieve your goals.

I help individuals and teams to think strategically, find solutions and explore opportunities. I make the time to understand their context and what is most important to them, enabling them to move forwards with clarity and purpose, so that they can:

  • shift from reactive to proactive
  • feel more in control
  • achieve more of what matters most.

I offer executive coaching, development support and workshops, complementing traditional professional development to make a practical and tangible difference to individuals and organisations.

With my support, you and your team can:

  • optimise your income generation and fundraising outcomes
  • enhance critical skills
  • move forward with energy and purpose.
“Coaching achieved what no training course, manual or book could have done by comparison. It has been like changing the oil in an engine.”
Robin Fletcher
CEO, BSA (not-for-profit)
“The development coaching was excellent in helping me to structure my thoughts and direct the process going forward. We had done a lot of brainstorming as a Senior Leadership Team and I was struggling to work out the obvious first step as I was getting lost in the detail. I found Jo’s approach hugely positive, helpful, clear, structured and valuable in starting the process. I felt much was achieved in just one meeting and I now have a clear steer on what to do next."

Performance and motivation

The pandemic has created an unpredictable environment, and organisations are managing complex operational challenges. How has this affected performance?

Living and working with uncertainty and managing relentless pressure can mean that people are more easily triggered, which can lead to:

  • loss of perspective
  • difficulty thinking strategically
  • overwhelm and procrastination
  • misunderstandings and conflict.

For people to do their best at work they need to feel their best.

My performance coaching and workshops

I help individuals and teams to make positive change happen by developing personalised and practical strategies to shift from reactive to proactive.

I help you to:

  1. reflect, consolidate, and distil priorities
  2. scope opportunities and develop your strategic goals
  3. explore alternative scenarios and opportunities
  4. identify pathways to overcome setbacks and obstacles to progress.

“I have seen the benefit of focusing on one issue in depth, as so often work life is so busy and unpredictable that it is difficult to do this."

Development: engagement, fundraising and partnerships

We are working in a volatile and changeable environment and in response have had to change the way we work. How have you adapted your approach to engagement?

Engagement and fundraising

Traditional avenues of engagement, such as networking events, have been restricted, so how can you engage prospects when you cannot necessarily meet them in person? With more remote contact, and less human connection, how do you build meaningful relationships with people you don’t know?

My development coaching

I help individuals and organisations:

  • find authentic ways to build connections with the people they want to get to know better
  • start meaningful conversations with prospects despite restrictions
  • build sustainable relationships with people who will help you achieve your vision.
”As we often operate in standalone roles, it is very helpful to have a one-to-one session like this with someone who understands fundraising/the sector and can provide dedicated time with you focused on your own personal development."
Joanne Joyce
Director of Development and Alumnae Relations,
Wimbledon High School

Partnerships and collaboration

In my experience, good collaboration and trusted partnerships underpin every great outcome.

Our ability to communicate effectively and navigate difference is integral to being effective.

When communication isn’t working you may notice more:

  • negativity
  • misunderstandings
  • conflict
  • procrastination.

Partnerships: my collaboration coaching and workshops

I help individuals and organisations in three distinct ways:

  1. to communicate calmly, clearly and effectively (even when it’s a difficult conversation)
  2. to work more cohesively with greater alignment
  3. to develop positive and reciprocally beneficially partnerships.

“We work more openly as a team and understand each other's responsibilities and personalities better. We stick to our weekly meeting to brainstorm and help each other out with ideas. We use a large whiteboard so that we are all on the same page. Overall, since we know more about each other’s roles, stress triggers, and responsibilities, at work and at home, we are able to work more openly and effectively.”
Naomi Shepherd
Admissions Officer, St Margaret’s School for girls

Resilience and emotional health

During the pandemic our resilience has been tested over and over. Even the most experienced professionals may have had their resilience tested. The key to restoring resilience is learning from experience.  What have you learned from your experience?

We can only do our best work when we feel our best and yet it is easy to ignore our own needs and put them to the bottom of our list of priorities. Unless we make time for ourselves, our motivation and performance can suffer. I help you and your teams develop strategies that replenish resilience and boost motivation.

What are the signs that resilience is running low?

  • lack of motivation and energy
  • struggling to balance high volume of work with personal life
  • feeling overwhelmed and unable to see the wood for the trees
  • feeling out of control
  • perfectionism and procrastination tendencies.

Performance: my resilience coaching and workshops

It’s easy to jump in and tell others what they need to do to solve their problems.

However, when it comes to motivation and resilience, it’s far more effective for people to develop their own solutions. My approach is to equip you with the tools you need to build the strategies that work best for you.

I work with individuals and teams to enable them shift from:

  • reactive to proactive
  • blaming others to taking responsibility
  • feeling demotivated to feeling energetic
  • a negative to a positive frame of reference.
“At the end of my first coaching session I felt more empowered to take control of my thoughts which I can sometimes catastrophise which makes me feel overwhelmed. Jo is helping me work out practical strategies for dealing with my workload and leadership responsibilities."

Performance: working with schools: helping staff and pupils build their resilience

Schools are giving priority to their staff and pupils’ emotional health and resilience: as they have seen many are struggling.

Most schools’ resources are limited: not every problem can be referred to a counsellor. I help staff build their resilience so that they can lead by example, improving their capacity to support those pupils who are struggling to build resilience and emotional wellness.

I empower staff to adopt techniques that can help young people work out strategies to help themselves.
